{"id":10601,"date":"2022-06-01T09:10:07","date_gmt":"2022-06-01T07:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.camping-chaille-les-marais.com\/100-discovery-experience\/day-2-the-island-of-aix\/"},"modified":"2022-06-01T09:10:07","modified_gmt":"2022-06-01T07:10:07","slug":"day-2-the-island-of-aix","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.camping-chaille-les-marais.com\/en\/100-discovery-experience\/day-2-the-island-of-aix\/","title":{"rendered":"Day 2: the island of Aix"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-sev-featured-text\">Discovery of the island of Aix<br>Direction Fouras and the pier<br>Plan the day<br>Evening stroll and visit Fouras<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this second &#8220;Visit and Excursion&#8221; getaway, we propose you to discover one of the unknown jewels of the Atlantic, the sublime Island of Aix.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our advice for boarding:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several departures are possible from La Tranche sur Mer, La Rochelle or Fouras.  <br\/>As far as we are concerned, we prefer the departure from Fouras.  <br\/>Of course, it takes a good hour by car to reach the city, but the crossing is shorter (only 20 minutes) and less expensive.  <br\/>Once you arrive in Fouras, go to the Pointe de la Fum\u00e9e, where the pier is located.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Good to know:<\/strong> It is better to plan ahead, especially in summer, and to choose the first ferry in the morning to avoid the busiest times.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not forget anything to make the most of this experience:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sun protection (cream, cap, glasses&#8230;).<\/li><li>Swimsuit, mask and snorkel.<\/li><li>A tasty picnic (there are a few restaurants on the island but honestly you&#8217;ll find plenty of great spots to stay).<\/li><li>Several liters of water.<\/li><li>Good shoes if you decide to walk around the island (<strong>\n  <em>Estimated time :<\/em>\n<\/strong> 3 hours)<\/li><\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NB :<\/strong> You can choose to<strong>\n  <em> rent bicycles<\/em>\n<\/strong> to discover this privileged place of nature.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Go to Cyclaix<\/strong>: this store is located opposite the bakery, in the center of the village, 200 meters from the port. The welcome is warm and you will find bikes of all sizes.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also possible to rent tandems for amateurs or children&#8217;s trailers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Opening hours :<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From April 1st to November 5th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm except Monday  <br\/>In July and August: from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm every day<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As soon as you set foot on this crescent-shaped island, you&#8217;ll know you&#8217;ve made the right choice. The charm, and I put my hand to it, operates immediately.  <br\/>At the entrance of the island stands the fort of the Rade. This building built successively between 1692 and 1704 has crossed the centuries. Here, the noise of the engines is banished (except for the natives the car does not have the right of city).  <br\/>Why not take up the verses of Charles Baudelaire which sum up wonderfully the feeling that inhabits us when we stroll through the flowered streets of this picturesque village.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;There, everything is order and beauty, luxury, calm and pleasure. <strong>\n  <em>&#8220;<\/em>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, visiting the island of Aix is the promise of an invigorating and unique odyssey, placed under the seal of nature. Indeed, the island concentrates all the diversity of the landscapes of the Charente-Maritime coast: intimate creeks and long sandy stretches, cliffs and steep paths, vineyards, forests of maritime pines and green oaks, everything here reminds us how generous nature can be.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where to swim?<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>\n  <em>The beach of Anse de La Croix<\/em>\n<\/strong> is a great swimming spot. It is located near the pier and offers a unique panorama on the Fort Boyard.<\/li><li><strong>\n  <em>The Great Beach <\/em>\n<\/strong>which stretches for more than a kilometer, will delight children who will have all the leisure to play, to make kites fly in the sky or to build sand castles.<\/li><li><strong><em>Favorite : The beach of Yellow Sands.  <\/em><\/strong>It is rather a heavenly cove that we recommend for a picnic for example. For swimming, it is possible but it is less suitable for children.<\/li><\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For culture lovers&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can visit the African Museum or the Napoleon Museum.  <br\/>Finally, the Maison de la Nacre will allow you to discover the local specialty and leave with a nice pearly souvenir.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When you return from your excursion on the island of Aix&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don&#8217;t hesitate to make a stop in Fouras before returning to the campsite.  <br\/>This pretty seaside resort of character will not fail to seduce you.  <br\/>In summer, the city&#8217;s vibrant life is worth a visit&#8230;  <br\/>The acrobats are legion.  <br\/>The street shows bring this unique freshness, the strolls of the artists and the concerts give to Fouras a very particular atmosphere.  <br\/>It&#8217;s just the thing to end the day on a high
